GREENSBORO - The Better Business Bureau of Central N.C. honored four local companies Wednesday night for their business ethics.

The BBB presented the 2009 annual Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics to Guy’s Home Inspection Services and Pyramids Services. The runner-up honorees are Grey Oak Wealth Management and Empire Today.

The Torch Awards recognize companies that have a solid commitment to conducting business in an ethical fashion.

An independent panel of judges chose the winners based on several topics including management policies and practices, customer relations, marketing/sales practices, and community involvement.

In announcing the winners, Todd Wilson, chairman of the local BBB, said:

“Ethics in the marketplace is the first priority of the Better Business Bureau and while the BBB supports marketplace ethics, it’s the Accredited Businesses themselves that have to set an example for others. We hold our BBB Accredited Businesses to extremely high standards and the purpose of the Torch Awards is to recognize some of those businesses.”

The BBB also honored its two Student Ethics Scholarship winners: Benjamin Windsor, who attends UNCG, and Mollie Brewer, who attends UNC-Chapel Hill. Each received a $1,000 scholarship.

New boards members elected Wednesday night are: Kevin McAllister of J.P. Looneys; Chuck Crotts of Applied Copier Concepts; Jim Schwartz of Gate City Lincoln Mercury; Stan Park of Craft Insurance Center; Teresa Shannon of Prestige Management Group; and Susan Connors of Carolina Networks.
