BBB Honores Three Local Businesses

GREENSBORO -- The Better Business Bureau of Central N.C. honored three local businesses Wednesday evening (Oct. 19) at its annual meeting and celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Zaki Oriental Rugs, Logan Heating & Air Conditioning and Vann York Automotive Group were given Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics.

“The BBB’s role is to support trust in the marketplace and these three businesses have been leaders in doing that,” said Kevin Hinterberger, president and CEO of the BBB. “We’re proud to have them as part of our organization.”

The BBB also elected new officers and board members.

Scott Fleming, president of Replacements, Ltd., was elected to a second one-year term as chairmain. The other officers are: vice chairman, Joe Johnson of US Home Exteriors; secretary, Jeff Finberg of the Bank of Oak Ridge; treasurer, Kim Cass of John F. Dunton & Associates; past chairman, Todd Wilson of Wilson & Sons Termite & Pest Control.

New board members elected are: John Day of Rice Toyota Scion; Arthur Jordan of Carpet Super Mart, Inc.; Darrell Poynter of Starr Travel; Zaki Khalifa of Zaki Oriental Rugs; Karl Robinson of R&R Transportation, Inc.; and Wayne Kocher of Ilderton Chrysler Dodge Ram.

The BBB also honored its 2011 Student Ethics Scholarship Winners Caroline Cheeks, who is attending Wake Forest University and Brittany Porter, who is attending UNC-CH.

The BBB celebrated its 50th anniversary by thanking the Greensboro Area Chamber of Commerce, the Jaycees and the GMA, who petitioned for a BBB charter in Greensboro. One of the honored guests with Forrest Wilkins, the first executive director of the BBB.

Nineteen local businesses that helped start the organization were also honored. They are: Arrow Exterminators, Inc.; Atlas Fence Company; Bain Oil Company; Benner & Fields; Berico Fuels; Bill Black Chevrolet Cadillac, Inc.; Brooks General Contractors; Costello, Hill & Company; Craft Insurance Center; Duke Energy Corporation; First Citizens Bank & Trust Company; Fleming-Shaw Transfer & Storage Company; Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Services; Industries of the Blind; Remco Supply; Schiffman’s; Senn Dunn Insurance; Starr Electric Company; and Terry Labonte Chevrolet/RV.
