Mollie Brewer, a senior at Southwest Guilford High School, and Benjamin Windsor, a senior at Piedmont Academy in Greensboro, have been named as recipients of the Better Business Bureau 2009 Student Ethics Scholarship Awards. Each will receive $1,000 in scholarship funds.
“The program recognizes high school seniors in our service area who personify high ethical standards, demonstrated through leadership, community service, academic history, and overall personal integrity,” said Kevin Hinterberger, BBB President/CEO. “As our next generation of business leaders and consumers, they are challenged to insure that the virtues of ethics and integrity remain a vital part of our marketplace dynamics for the betterment of our communities and overall quality of life.”
While maintaining a 5.629 weighted grade point average, Brewer has maintained a strong commitment to school co-curricular and community activities, including several leadership positions. She was a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, soccer and tennis teams, as well as several academic programs and events. Among her many community and civic contributions were commitments to Mount Shepherd Summer Mission Camp, Ward Street Mission, Jeremiah Project, YMCA youth soccer coach, Sunday School Children’s Music Ministry and fund raising for MS charity.
Brewer will be attending UNC-Chapel Hill upon graduation.
Windsor’s record of a 4.02 weighted GPA is also backed by over 1000 hours of volunteer service during high school that includes; Red Cross, Life Community Church, Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center, and Operation Christmas Child. Six times from 2003 through 2009 he received the President’s Volunteer Service Award through the USA Freedom Corps. Through his work with the Greensboro Chapter of the American Red Cross, Windsor was also awarded a Citation for Exceptional Volunteer Service, Woodrow Wilson Youth Award for Exemplary Volunteer Service, Emily Preyer Memorial Youth Award, and Elizabeth Dole Ward for Excellence in Youth Programs.
Following graduation, Windsor plans to attend UNC – Greensboro, majoring in pre-law.
